What will you choose?

Have you ever been in a place to where you have seen money laying on the ground? Let's see how many people, by show of hands have ever found a penny, a dollar, a twenty or even a hundred dollar bill in a parking lot or just laying on the floor in a store. I see many hands being raised and a few that are not. Blessed are we and sorry for those not raising their hands. Now we can pay that traffic ticket we got yesterday or maybe that debt we owe or just maybe if that penny was facing heads up it might bring us luck. lol! No, just kidding, this is not any kind of a blessing. Nor is it our's to keep. Here we have a chance to choose to do what is right or the chance to choose to do what is wrong. James say's, " So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin." Jame 4:17

Today we are going to take a look at the life of Solomon. If you have your bible near you please turn with me to the book of 1 Kings. Here we see that king David has become ill and appoints Solomon to be king. During King Solomon's forty year reign, he learned many practical lessons for spiritual growth that are just as relevant today as they were in ancient times. Today we are going to learn something from King Solomon that is a practical lesson for our spiritual growth. Turn with me to chapter 11 please. Here we see that Solomon had the chance to do what was right but yet chose to do what was wrong. Solomon chose to sin and for his sin there was a consequence.

Just as we have the chance to do what is right with the money we found, Solomon has the chance to do what is right in what the Lord had told Israelite's not to do. Here in chapter 11 we see that Solomon had many wife's. He loved many foreign women besides Pharaoh's daughter. The Lord had told the Israelite's, " you must not intermarry with them, because they will surely turn your hearts after their god's." Nevertheless, Solomon held fast to them in love. 1 Kings 11:2 Solomon could have chose to be faithful to Pharaoh's daughter which would have been the right thing to do but instead chose to intermarry with other women. In choosing to do what was wrong he committed a sin and there was a consequence to that sin.

The right thing to do with the money we found is to turn it over to someone that the person to who lost the money might come back to in seeking to find it. We know that if we lost a hundred dollar bill in a parking lot, we would go from store to store seeing if someone had turned it in or if we lost a dollar in a store we would go to the cashier to see if someone turn it in. This would be the right thing to do. When we choose to do what is wrong, which is to keep the money we found, we commit a sin and there is a consequence to that sin. Just like Solomon we too will have to face the fact of what we have done.

Solomon's consequence to his sin was to lose the kingdom that he ruled over. As we take a look at 1 Kings 9-13 we see that not only did Solomon's choice to do what was wrong affect just him but it also affected others. The consequence of Solomon's sin brought misery to his life and after his death his son also felt that consequence of his dad's sin. His son inherited the whole kingdom but had all but one tribe torn from him. Solomon could have chose to do what was right and blessings would have fell upon him and his family, but in so choosing to do what was wrong he missed out on the blessings he could have had and shared with his son.

The same is with us as well. By choosing to do what is wrong we to will not only be affected by the consequence of our sin but our family will also. Our lives will become miserable and the blessings that are to come to our family will be less than what they should be. By thinking only of ourselves and what we can do with what we have found, we find that it will cost us more than we ever knew. By doing what is wrong we find that the cost is more than that we are willing to pay. No one ever wants to hurt the person they love but by doing what is wrong we unknowingly hurt that person without them even knowing it.

If you have found this to be true in your life and that you at some point have choose to do what was wrong then today you have the chance to choose to do what is right. Today you have the chance to choose to come to the cross and to choose to tell JESUS what you have done and ask for HIS forgiveness and to come into your heart and to help you to always choose to do what is right. Today you have the chance to choose to repent of your sin and to walk away a new creation. Today you have the chance to choose to right all the wrongs that you have ever chose in your life. Today you have the chance to choose to show your loved ones just how much you really do love them. Today choose to do what right and say this prayer with all your heart.....

 JESUS,
I come before you seeing myself as you see me, a person who has chosen to do what was wrong, a sinner. I have come to see that my choice to do what is wrong, my sin has separated me from you and the FATHER. JESUS, I ask that if you will, Please forgive me of my sin and come into my heart and wash me clean. Give me a new start this day. I realize that I might still choose to do what is wrong, but I ask that you correct me and teach me how to choose to do what is right. Search my heart LORD and as I grow and mature in my walk with you may the things that don't belong in my heart be removed one by one. I thank you for loving me so much that you gave your life for my life so that I would not have to suffer the punishment that I so deserve. JESUS, you say that you will save those that confess with their mouth that you are LORD and believe in their heart that GOD has raised you from death. I confess out loud to you, JESUS, You are LORD and I do believe in my heart that GOD has raised you from the dead. Thank you, JESUS for saving me this day. Help me to accept your forgiveness each day LORD. Help me to love others as you love me. Give me the strength to stand when I fall. From this day forward make me the person to who you would have me to be LORD. A person that desire to choose right over wrong no matter what. THANK YOU JESUS. In your name I pray. AMEN!

Father,
I come before You, desiring to provide thanks. Father, I have so much to be thankful for, things unseen and seen, that You have done in my life. I am thankful Lord for everything that You allow to cross my path.Thankful for the decisions that You allow me to make and the lessons that come from those decisions. You know the times I have been ungrateful, held ill thoughts toward You and my fellow humans. You know the times I complain and grumble about life and its circumstances, about suffering, going through what seem endless trials and tribulations. Even yielding my members to unholy deeds. Yet God You are and always will be there with me, even when it seems like I am forever in the wilderness, running further and further from You, You, my God are there guiding me back to Your loving arms. I’m thankful, Lord, that I do not have to live under condemnation anymore, that You have truly set me free, that I am a new creation that I need not live under the law anymore. Thankful Lord that You have given me joy unspeakable. Thankful Lord that You are long-suffering, allowing me to mature in You! Lord, words do not express my thankfulness. For Your mighty power is at work in me, transforming me, renewing my mind. To You Lord belong thanks eternal. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.
